The basic rule at MRC (Midwest Recycling Center) is that they accept almost anything that plugs into a wall or takes batteries.

Since 1998, MRC has been diverting electronic waste from landfills while offering convenient and effective solutions to the ongoing issues of data destruction and environmental liability.

MRC provides IT asset disposition and data destruction services, as well as medical & lab asset disposition (MLAD) and electronics recycling. MRC follows the mantra; “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”

Based on requirements of each client, MRC either de-manufactures items down to a component level or finds a home for the item to be reused. Reuse is the most environmentally friendly form of recycling. As long as the client does not require total destruction, MRC will try to reuse items in the form of parts or as a working unit.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources maintains a database of e-cycling businesses that follow the department’s tiered-registration program. Not surprisingly, MRC is at the highest tier, level 4, which means they voluntarily follow more guidelines as they de-manufacture electronic waste. MRC is also certified to the R2/RIOS standard.

Over the years, MRC has handled countless corporate ITAD projects. It also manages over 100 community recycling events each year in support of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Last year, MRC diverted 6.7 million pounds that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.

Because of its capabilities and experience, MRC is engaged to help with unique projects. One of the more memorable was assisting with the Joplin Tornado Disaster Area Cleanup. Working with the EPA, MRC was able to recycle over 312,000 pounds of electronics extracted from the carnage.

MRC excels at electronics recycling as well as data destruction. The proper destruction of hard drives and the information contained on them is an essential service MRC offers. MRC will either wipe hard drives or perform hard drive/media shredding. Every single hard drive is tracked individually by serial number and samples are forensically tested by an independent lab quarterly.
